As noted in an earlier post, San Francisco Playhouse is now staging Tennessee Williams’ seminal masterpiece The Glass Menagerie, directed by in-demand Bay Area theatre artist Jeffrey Lo.
In this captivating and visceral memory play, Tom longs to evade his monotonous day job and his mother Amanda. Recalling her debutante days, Amanda toils to find a match for her debilitatingly shy daughter Laura, who escapes the realities of her world through her collection of glass animal figurines.
The San Francisco Chronicle theater critic observes that if one were to crack open “The Glass Menagerie,” and you might find a dreamscape inside.
“This 1944 masterpiece is like a series of nested worlds with the tops broken off.”
The Glass Menagerie will perform through June 15, 2024 at San Francisco Playhouse, 450 Post Street.
