Shipping Container in Sausalito Will Be Stage for SF Opera Production

Ferry riders have another reason to make Sausalito their next recreational destination.

Returning for its third consecutive year, San Francisco Opera’s popular Bohème Out of the Box presentation of La Bohème—Giacomo Puccini’s beloved opera about love and loss among a group of bohemian artists—hits the road this April, May and June.

Performed in an intimate one-hour version on a converted mobile shipping container stage with piano accompaniment, Bohème Out of the Box will offer free afternoon performances in downtown Sausalito (April 26 & 27).

The Bohème Out of the Box cast features current San Francisco Opera Adler Fellows Caroline Corrales (Mimì), Samuel White (Rodolfo), Georgiana Adams (Musetta), Samuel Kidd (Marcello) and Jongwon Han (Colline), with Philip Skinner (Benoit/Alcindoro) and Adler Fellow pianists Julian Grabarek and Ji Youn Lee. The creative and technical team includes Jose Maria Condemi (Stage Director), Cassandra Carpenter (Costume Consultant), Ryan O’Steen (Set Coordinator) and Justin A. Partier (Lighting Director). The opera is sung in Italian; live English supertitles will be available via personal mobile devices.

Launched in 2023 as part of the Company’s Centennial Season, Bohème Out of the Box has taken La Bohème’s powerful emotions and soaring music to outdoor locations served by ferry in South San Francisco

This year’s Bohème Out of the Box complements San Francisco Opera’s 2025 Summer Season presentation of Puccini’s La Bohème, which features two extraordinary casts and runs June 3–21 at the War Memorial Opera House.
