New Dance Performance at Presidio Theatre

The Presidio Theatre and Printz Dance Project present a significant re-mounting of choreographer and director Stacey Printz’s landmark 2017 work, GLASSlands in two performances, Saturday, September 21, at 7:30 pm and Sunday, September 22, at 4 pm.

GLASSlands explores human interactions, intimacy and alienation and the increasing compromise of human connection due to the intervention of communications technology.

The evening-length work features striking set design by award-wining artist Sean Riley comprising large, transparent pod-like structures, or “bubble rooms” that fill and animate the performance space, creating a plastic world that dancers inhabit and explore. Additionally, plastic “filters” hang in the space and round out the metaphoric environment that suggests we are all affected by isolation and interference with each other. The work grapples with how recent social-media-driven realities affect partnerships, friendships and love and how people manifest intimacy in a complex, screen-filled world. Completing the creative team are innovative lighting designer Wolfgang Wachalovsky, assistant director Jenni Bregman and costume designer Natalie Barshaw.

Tickets, priced $39-$49 may be purchased at www.presidiotheatre.org .

“The issues GLASSLands explored when it premiered in 2017 are not only still with us,” says Printz, “they have become acutely relevant in the intervening years due to global health, peace and social issues we have all experienced together. With this in mind, we are remounting and substantially updating the work to reflect the state of human connections and disconnections, intimacy and alienation. Technology today seems inseparable from interpersonal relationships. As we continue to suffer the social and personal upheavals of our time, art that shines a light on authentic, shared experience and relationships is particularly urgent.”

Company members include Dane Paul Andres, Sadie Carhart, Adrian Contreras, Sarah Emmons, Camille Henrot, Kim Holt, Stacey Printz, Andrea Schumann, Tatianna Steiner and Victor Talledos with Ensemble members Jaime Bardacke, Jessica Brown, Nicole Chatham, Teo Lin-Bianco, Yura Masurov and Masha Savushkina.
