Bay Area Cabaret is presenting the Bay Area concert debut of internationally acclaimed singer/songwriter Carla Bruni on Friday, February 23, 2018 – 8:00 p.m.
Marking only her second U.S. concert tour in her twenty year musical career, the French pop star will be performing songs from her brand new album, French Touch.
Critic Jed Gottlieb of the Boston Herald voiced his praise for Bruni in a recent column:
“Without slighting Carla Bruni’s accomplishments as a model, a mother and the first lady of France, her most impressive talent is her voice. This shouldn’t be too surprising — she’s been working as a singer-songwriter longer than at her other roles. But English-speaking audiences haven’t had much opportunity to enjoy Bruni’s quintessentially French vocals.
Thankfully, Bruni agreed to David Foster’s offer to produce an English-language covers album for her.”
Her first album of covers and all in English, French Touchruns the gamut from standards such as “Moon River” and “Crazy” (with Willie Nelson) to rock classics like the Rolling Stones’ “Miss You”, Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy the Silence” and Lou Reed’s “A Perfect Day.” Produced by David Foster, the album retains Carla Bruni’s signature style of stripped-down arrangements, smoky vocals, and what Ms Bruni aptly describes as “intimacy.”
And it’s that intimate connection with her material that aligns Carla Bruni with Bay Area Cabaret and the intimate Venetian Room.
Carla Bruni has been writing and performing music since 1997 and has released five critically acclaimed albums, selling more than 3 million copies worldwide.
